About Matthew
Matthew Kestenbaum, MD, FAAHPM serves as the President Elect of the National POLST Collaborative. Dr. Kestenbaum is the Chief Medical Officer of Capital Caring Health and the Medical Director of the Virginia POLST Collaborative (VPC). Dr. Kestenbaum received his medical degree from the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 1994 and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL in 1997. A Hospice and Palliative Medicine Physician for the past 26 years, he has been a member of the Virginia POLST Collaborative since 2008 and has served on the Executive Committee since its inception in 2012. He was named Associate Medical Director of the Collaborative in 2012, and then Medical Director in 2018. Dr. Kestenbaum has been an active member of National POLST for over a decade and has been one of Virginia’s representatives to National since 2016. He served as a member of the Consultation Committee and Chair of the Mature Status Standards Revision Committee, and was elected to the Board and the Executive Committee of the National POLST Paradigm in early 2017.
